PUNE: The construction of the much-awaited DP road from Dhanori Jakat Naka to DY Patil College is finally on track with the Pune Municipal Corporation issuing a tender of Rs 6 crore for the project.
This development plan (DP) road will run parallel to Porwal Road and benefit the residents of Lohegaon and Dhanori, who had been pushing for the project for years now.

Lohegaon resident Meenakshi Kadam said residents were forced to battle daily traffic issues and the new road would, hopefully, put an end to their plight. “We appreciate the efforts taken by the local leaders for taking up our demands seriously,” she said.
An active volunteer of ‘Green Run marathon’ held recently for DP road development, Prashant Lage, said, “This area was neglected for years. But, now there is some hope. We have also suggested the local MLA to take up the development of other internal roads in the area.”

The residents said once the DP road was constructed, it would help reduce traffic volume on Porwal Road. “The construction of the DP road will bring much-needed relief to the residents of Dhanori and Lohegaon areas,” Sandeep Lokhande, vice-president of the Lohegaon Residents’ Welfare Association (LRWA), said.
When contacted, MLA Sunil Tingre told TOI, “The road will be of 60-metre wide and about 2.1km long. A majority of the land for the project was acquired between 2012 and 2015, following which about 1km of the road was developed. However, the construction was stopped over land acquisition issues thereafter. The tender for the project was floated on January 17.”

A civic official said a section of the road, about 200 metres, was still facing some issue, for which Section 205 (power to make public road by compulsory acquisition of private land) of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation Act, 1949, would be applied.
Aniruddha Pawaskar, head of the civic road department, said, “The residents of Dhanori and Lohegaon, besides the members of LRWA, have been constantly following up for construction of this road. Considering their demands, the tender was floated and once construction begins, it will be ready within six months.”
