Faculty & Staff Resources

Faculty and staff play an important role in keeping the University of La Verne a safe and inclusive environment for learning, living, and working. The following resources are provided to help employees in supporting the University community and meeting their obligations under University policy.

Suggested Title IX Syllabus Statement

University of La Verne faculty are committed to creating a safe learning environment for all members of our community, free from sex-based discrimination, including sexual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, and discrimination on the basis of gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, and pregnancy in accordance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.

Please note that University policy requires all employees, except for those designated as Confidential Resources, to report all disclosures of sex-based discrimination, harassment, or violence to the University of La Verne’s Title IX Coordinator. The Title IX Coordinator will reach out to provide resources, support, and information after receiving a report, but community members are not required to respond to such outreach. Reported information will be remain private.

For information regarding the University of La Verne’s Title IX and sexual misconduct procedures, reporting options, and supportive measures, please visit the University’s Title IX webpage at www.laverne.edu/title-ix. The University’s Title IX Coordinator can also be contacted by email at Title9Coordinator@laverne.edu or by phone at 909-448-4012. If you wish to speak with someone confidentially, please visit the University’s Title IX webpage for a list of on- and off-campus resources that are not required to report to the Title IX Coordinator.

Employee Reporting & Supporting

All University of La Verne employees, except for those designated as Confidential Resources, are required to report all disclosures of sex-based discrimination, harassment, or violence directly to the Title IX Coordinator. Reporting to a supervisor, Human Resources, or Student Affairs does not meet this reporting responsibility. With the consent of the disclosing party, employees are encouraged, but not required, to share such disclosures not subject to the University’s jurisdiction such as those occurring off-campus and not involving any other University community members. If an employee is unsure about whether they are required to report, they should contact the Title IX Coordinator for an assessment.

Employees may also have reporting responsibilities under CANRA, the Clery Act, or other laws that are separate from sexual misconduct reporting obligations

When someone shares that they have experienced sexual misconduct, it is important to respond with care and direct them to appropriate information. Employees can respond in a supportive and appropriate manner by keeping the following in mind:

-If you believe that someone may be about to make a disclosure to you, inform them of your reporting obligations.
-Listen with empathy and avoid being judgmental or discouraging.
-Share relevant resources, including the Title IX webpage.
-Assure them that the Title IX Office is a safe space and reporting to the Title IX Office does not necessarily automatically initiate an investigation.
-Do not investigate the report or attempt to gather additional information yourself.
-Do not take any administrative or employment action without first conferring with the Title IX Coordinator.
